In this week’s Hummingbird Robotics activity, students took on a new challenge — working in teams. The goal was simple: one partner finds the code in the instructions, and the other types it in to bring their robot to life. But what seemed simple on the surface quickly revealed something deeper — teamwork isn’t just about dividing tasks, it’s about communication, trust, and decision-making.
Some teams quickly found their rhythm. They listened to each other, shared ideas, and adjusted when things didn’t go as planned. Their robots moved, flashed, and responded just as they’d hoped. Other teams, however, struggled with indecision and power dynamics. When both students wanted to lead — or neither wanted to take responsibility — progress slowed, and frustration grew. It became a real-world lesson in collaboration: success didn’t come from who was “right,” but from who could work together. In the end, the teams that communicated, adapted, and supported each other produced the strongest results — proving that in robotics, and in life, teamwork makes the dream work.
