
In Zone 8, with a 2026 last frost expected mid-March to April 1 and first frost around early November to December 1, gardening is possible almost year-round. Start seeds indoors in January/February, transplant tomatoes/peppers in April, and plant fall crops in August/September.
Spring Planting 2026
- Late Jan – February: Start seeds indoors (tomatoes, peppers, broccoli, kale).
- Early March: Direct sow lettuce, peas, carrots, and radishes.
- Mid-March: Plant onion sets and potatoes.
- April: Transplant warm-season crops (tomatoes, peppers) once the danger of frost passes, roughly April 1-15.
- May - June: Plant okra, sweet corn, southern peas, and melons.
