If you’ve walked past the construction site today, you’ve probably heard the rumble of mixing trucks and seen a line of massive concrete trucks stretching across the lot. Today is Pour Day—a major milestone for our new campus building!

Here is a quick look at the engineering action happening right outside our windows:

  • Rising Above the Water: Over the past few months, crews brought in tons of engineered soil to raise the entire foundation site 3 to 4 feet. This keeps the future building safely above the local water table and protects it from potential flooding.

  • Digging In: Workers trenched out the layout for the footings—the deepest parts of the foundation that will support the building's main structural weight.

  • The Steel Skeleton: If you look closely into the trenches before the concrete covers them, you’ll see a grid of steel bars (rebar). Concrete is incredibly strong against crushing forces, but it needs steel reinforcement to prevent it from cracking under bending or shifting forces.

  • The Big Pour: Right now, liquid concrete is filling the trenches. Workers are using specialized vibrating rods to shake out trapped air bubbles, ensuring the foundation is completely solid with zero weak spots.

What’s next? Once the surface is perfectly leveled and smoothed, the concrete begins a chemical reaction called hydration. Over the next week, it will lock the mixture into solid rock. Keep an eye out—you might even see crews spraying the foundation with water to help it cure slowly and reach maximum strength!
