Ms. Russell (Teacher) & Ms. Munley (Teacher Assistant)
YouthMs. Theresa Russell (lower picture, far right), fifth grade teacher, and Ms. Wanda Monley (middle left picture, left), teacher assistant, taught students how to harness the energy of the sun to make Sun S’mores. Students followed directions as engineers to transform pizza boxes into solar ovens. When solar ovens were completed, each team placed marshmallows and chocolate squares on graham crackers into the solar ovens. Solar ovens were placed on tables outside in direct sunlight for 30 to 60 minutes. The sun’s rays were reflected on the foil and heated up the air inside the solar ovens causing the chocolate to melt. The children enjoyed eating their Sun S’mores.
