January 30th began a new series of meetings for our parents. The first in the series focused on bullying of our children. During the discussion it was brought out that one in every four children experiences bullying of some type; sometimes it is as straight forward as the bully using intimidation to take money, food, or other personal items, other times it may be in the form of attacks on Facebook or other social media. Time was spent discussing how to determine if a child is being bullied and the child’s concern of being seen as a snitch. Some of the warning signs are avoiding something they love to do or becoming quite or moody. Parents were also concerned about how to discuss the problem with school officials and also brought up the problem of what to do when the child is being bullied by the parent. Great information was shared along with some drinks and pizza; and the next meeting is scheduled for March 14th.
