On June 12, 26 of SYSTEM’s 3rd and 4th graders went to Kitty Hawk, NC, to visit the Wright Brothers Memorial and see for themselves where the Wright brothers flew in the first aeroplane. It was an exciting trip for everyone!

During the school year, the students had worked on their own flying machines, even putting them to the test, so this was a great opportunity to not only learn more of the history of flight, but how their own inventions continue the work of science in aviation.

On June 22, 2017, fifteen 5th and 6th grade students from SYSTEM, along with staff members, participated in a three day excursion to Cape Kennedy Space Center and Universal Studio in Florida. This field trip was part of their 21st Century Learning Center NASA Challenge they participated in during the school year. Thanks to their hard work throughout the year in the NASA/STEM Challenge, the students not only enjoyed the trip, but were able to identify the various bridges they encountered along the way, NASA’s launch pads, and more. They even got to visit the actual launch pad NASA continues to use and learned how it was being prepared for a launch the following day.

The trip was a wonderful opportunity to bring together all the knowledge and experiences they had during the year creating their own Crew Exploration Vehicles with the assistance of NASA scientists and engineers. We are proud of each one of you for all your hard work!
