On June 10-11, twenty staff members from Partners In Ministry traveled to Discovery Place in Charlotte, NC. It was a two day workshop filled with the education of Robotics. We learned to build and program robots that sense light, follow commands, trace a path, and avoid obstacles that would impede successful completion of the robot. We explored robotics from the ground up, robot assembly, and simple motion programming.
Hummingbird Robotics Kits provided an excellent framework for working with various skill levels in robotics. With the Hummingbird Kits the teachers learned to create an Interactive Diorama. Our dioramas were built based on an assigned children’s book.

Frog Robot Group
The staff had a great time building Robots with actual moving parts. The staff built a fire engine with lights, siren and the 911 call, a gospel singer singing “Every Praise,” a hula dancer dancing to “Soulful Strut,” a fly escaping the tongue of a frog, a crying baby, and a dog with a little gas in his stomach (this was hilarious). The staff outdid themselves on their projects and enjoyed each minute of it.

We stepped into a world where science is brought to life through interactive exhibits. It was an opportunity to learn of more fun ways we can engage our students in the after school program in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM).
This event was funded by the generous support of the Duke Energy foundation and their commitment to the support of education in the Sandhills region of North Carolina.
Thanks Discovery Place! We had a great time!
